Even though the hit series Yellowstone is currently confusing its fans with conflicting statements about whether the series will end after season 5 or season 6, the Dutton family story is still heading for its big return. Since it was announced that Kevin Costner will not be returning, we have been wondering how the series will deal with this. The new poster may now provide some initial answers.

Kevin Costner’s character John Dutton was missing entirely from the first images for Season 5b. In the first teaser for the return of Yellowstone, however, his character appeared (with flashback statements about his “legacy”). Although the poster only shows silhouettes, every Yellowstone fan can easily recognize the outline of Kevin Costner’s character John Dutton based on his hat and stature. In addition to his (trunk?) tree, however, he is divided into a series of Gravestones and an open grave
(on the left with a shovel). Could this already be the decisive clue? There is widespread speculation that Taylor Sheridan wrote Kevin Costner’s patriarch out of the series by radically murdering his character after the dispute between the series creator and star.
The ominous tagline “The blood of many generations has brought us here” can be read as another deadly hint. Because apart from the Yellowstone spin-offs 1883 and 1923 about the Dutton ancestors, Kevin Costner’s character has so far represented the older generation, which in season 5b is supposed to make way for the quarrel between the children Beth, Jamie and Kayce.
When does Yellowstone start its season 5 finale with part 2?
In the USA, Yellowstone returns on 10 November 2024 on the Paramount Network. In Germany, the pay-TV channel AXN Black will broadcast the reunion: also in November, although there is no specific, known date yet.
