Does Hugh Jackman play in the residence? Therefore we never see the face of the Wolverine star in the Netflix series

Murder Mystery series The Residence not only comes up in the White House on Netflix with an exciting Whodunnit case for master detective Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba), but also with a few big names-including Kylie Minogue and Hugh Jackman. While the Australian pop singer is involved in several action lines of the murder investment, the Wolverine star only appears in short scenes when walking past-without showing his face. The reason behind it is simple.

Hugh Jackman had no time for Netflix series The Residence

As series creator Paul William Davies revealed to TVline, he tried his best to win Hugh Jackman for the Netflix series. Ultimately, however, the Wolverine star canceled:

We tried to fill him and he replied in a way that was very nice and apologetically. And he doesn’t have to apologize for anything. He is Hugh Jackman! He is busy. It just didn’t work.

So Davie had to reschedule, after all, he wanted to keep the role of Hugh Jackman in the White House during the Australian state banket. The Wolverine star was ultimately played by other actors, namely Ben Bigler and Justin Ellis Johnson. The decision does not regret Davies afterwards:

I thought you know what, I will do it in a way that is funny and there is a bit. It was a risk, but I had fun with it And I think we all just got involved. Kylie Minogue gave Netflix series The Residence even more time than expected

Kylie Minogue, on the other hand, sacrificed her schedule for the Netflix series even more extensive than Davies had planned. So he wrote to her even more scenes afterwards:

At first she had a smaller role. When she agreed, I thought it was for the smallest possible period of time, but She totally wanted to do more on itso I wrote her more. She had a great experience and we loved working with her. She is funny, she has a great timing and she was a great presence on the set.

All eight episodes of The Residence have streamed at Netflix since March 20, 2025.
