1997 was Peter Haber known throughout Sweden as the character Martin Beck in the “Beck” films. 27 years later, he is still shouldering the role in the wildly popular films.

“A robbery in a luxury apartment ends in a murder that resembles an execution. One of the first police officers on the scene is Vilhelm, who soon starts his own investigation.” So goes the description of number 51 in the order of Beck films.
“Beck – Vilhelm” focuses on Martin Beck’s grandson Vilhelm Beck, played by Walter Skarsgård. We have previously seen Valter Skarsgård in projects such as “Börje” and “Zebrarummet”, and in 2021 he made his debut in the hit series Beck.
He is also the son of the world-famous actor Stellan Skarsgård as well as younger brother of, among others Alexander, Gustaf and Bill Skarsgård.

In the latest in the line of Beck films, the character Vilhelm had to take an even bigger role in the plot. When News24 met Valter Skarsgård at the Guldbaggegala, the actor was asked about his future in Beck, and whether he will replace Peter Haber in the lead role.

What do you think? Will Vilhelm step in and take over from Martin Beck completely?
– I don’t think anyone will ever be able to take over from Peter Haber completely. But what’s fun is that Wilhelm gets to start interacting more with the Beck group and become part of that ensemble and take a bigger role. I don’t really see it as Vilhelm will take up more space than anyone else, but it’s fun that he also gets to take that place, to have his own film like this and be a little part and play with the others.
What is your favorite Beck movie?
– “Tracks in the dark”.
