For the needs of this film on the complicated relationship of two sisters, the actress and director had to give voice: it is she who we hear in the feature film on the sung parts.
To be credible as a singer, Géraldine Nakache took singing lessons before playing in I’ll go wherever you will go. The lessons lasted six months, supervised by a specialized coach: “He therefore made sure not to erase my tics for example, remembers Géraldine Nakache at the microphone from Allociné. The hardest part was interpreting “Ordinaire” because I was overwhelmed by emotion. Singing is already something very intimate but the lyrics of this title speak to me deeply. The public follows two sisters separated by the trials of life. For a weekend, their father tries to reconcile them. Géraldine Nakache plays a singer who interprets titles by Céline Dion, while Leïla Bekhti embodies her distant sister.
Synopsis – Vali and Mina are two opposite sisters, separated by the trials of life. One is a singer, dreamer and emotional. The other is a therapist, distant and rational. Their loving father ends up finding the perfect opportunity to bring them together for a weekend and try to reconcile them: Vali has landed an audition in Paris and it’s Mina who will have to take her there despite her contempt for his sister’s love.
Critics seem rather convinced by this reunion film which analyzes the complexity of family relationships. It is emotion that seems to take precedence in I’ll go wherever you will go : “bittersweet comedy” for The voice of the Northa “touching film” according to The Parisianit was not so much the comedy that won over the critics but more its sensitivity. The Express salutes “a great success with an impeccable rhythm where laughter disputes it with tears”, while Les Inrockuptibles says he is won over by the “true melancholy” shown in the film. The chemistry between Géraldine Nakache (also director of this feature film) and Leïla Bekhti, close on screen and in the city, remains one of the strong points of this fiction: “the fruitful complicity of Géraldine Nakache with her sister by adoption, Leïla Bekhti, largely tips the scales in favor of this sparkling family melody”, notes TV 7 Days. However, the charm did not operate in all the media, some deplore a scenario that was too broth: “we regret that the heart of the story is not ultimately deepened” writes The Sunday Journalwhen The world regrets an “approximate and expected” scenario as well as a “muddled and relaxed” realization. A dramatic comedy that should nevertheless appeal to those who have fallen for Everything that shines a few years earlier.
