Ovarian cancer is one of the most common gynecological cancers in women. Medical Oncology Specialist Prof. Dr. Uğur Coşkun made statements about ovarian cancer. Coşkun said, “Because it has few symptoms, it is a disease that is usually diagnosed late. In women with genetic predisposition, especially in those with mutations in the BRCA-1 and BRCA-2 genes, the risk of breast and uterine cancer along with ovarian cancer increases significantly.”
DOES ASPIRIN PREVENT Ovarian CANCER?
Coşkun said that a few days ago, in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, one of the most important journals in the field of oncology, the information that frequent, almost daily use of aspirin reduces the risk of cancer development in individuals with a high risk of ovarian cancer, Coşkun said, “In this study by Hurwitz Lauren et al. “About 8300 cases were collected by combining them, and it was shown that daily aspirin reduced the risk of ovarian cancer by 13 percent. This risk reduction was found in those with 2 or more risk factors such as family history, obesity, endometriosis,” he said.
IT SHOULD NOT BE USED OUTSIDE THE CONTROL OF THE DOCTOR
Stating that there is no method other than routine screening programs and preventive surgery applied in some cases in individuals at risk for ovarian cancer, Coşkun said that it is important that aspirin used in risky individuals in this study prevents the development of cancer in some patients.
Noting that aspirin is not a drug to be used unconsciously outside the doctor’s control, Coşkun said, “It can rarely cause conditions such as brain and stomach bleeding and stomach disorders. However, it can be considered in high-risk individuals in terms of ovarian cancer and in appropriate individuals under the control of a doctor.” (UAV)
