American documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock is dead on Thursday, May 23, in New York State. He was 53 years old.
Spurlock died of complications related to cancer, his family said in a statement on Friday.
Spurlock gained a lot of attention for his 2004 documentary Super Size Me, in which he ate only at McDonald’s for a month. In the documentary, Spurlock recorded his physical and psychological symptoms caused by the diet. The documentary won several awards and was nominated for the Oscars.
Later, the veracity of the document has been discussed. Spurlock is, for example told about his alcoholismwhich may have influenced the liver symptoms described in the documentary.
