Now a new season of Biggest Loser is starting on TV4. 19 year olds Nicolay Garcia de la Cueva is the youngest among the twelve participants. Everyone has undergone a health examination with senior doctor Mikael Sandström, known as Doctor Mikael in Nyhetsmorgon, and in the first episode they get the results of the examination.
— You have almost the worst values of all and you are 19 years old. You have something called prediabetes, that is the stage before you get type 2 diabetes, and you are not yet 20 years old. You’re on the wrong track! You have had your fair share of injustices, says Doctor Mikael to Nicolay.
Dropped out of school at 14
Before the participants stand on the scales for weighing, they have to introduce themselves and tell about their background. He was ostracized at school and became bored, which led to him dropping out in the eighth grade. The father met someone new and Nicolay felt like he completely left him and his sister.
— I started taking comfort food because I had so much anxiety. I gained 35 kilos in just a few months. I felt like shit, there were very dark thoughts, he says in the program.
Doctor Mikael becomes emotional
Nicolay’s fate makes Doctor Mikael really emotional. He is most angry at how they let a 14-year-old drop out of school and leave him alone wind by wave, isolated in his home.
— How to release a 14-year-old who has to leave school and sit alone in a room!?! It’s almost like I’m getting emotional… I think it’s to hell that they did this to you, says Dr. Mikael, looking bitter.
