Do you want to reread a message in a WhatsApp

Do you want to reread a message in a WhatsApp conversation, but it has since been deleted by the sender? Nothing is lost ! You can find it easily thanks to a very clever free app.

It is not uncommon, in a conversation on WhatsApp, often with group chats, for messages to suddenly disappear. This is neither a bug nor an error: in fact, the messaging allows any participant to delete the messages they wish, either for themselves only or for everyone. In fact, it is difficult to get your hands on it to keep a trace of it. There is an official method, but it is a little complicated to implement. It consists of restoring a backup of conversations saved in Google Drive as offered by WhatsApp. However, if a new backup has been made since the message was deleted, there is no chance of recovering it. However, another much simpler and less restrictive solution exists. It is based on a free app: WAMR. However, it is only available on Android, in the PlayStore. There are a few similar applications for iPhone, but they all require payment.

Messages sent through WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted. The WAMR App cannot therefore dig into the service’s servers to retrieve them. She therefore uses a more cunning but no less effective method. To get hold of messages received and then deleted by their sender, WAMR will simply scan the notifications from WhatsApp that arrive on the mobile. From there, she scrupulously notes everything that comes through: text messages of course but also images, videos and other voice notes. She then keeps everything in a file and presents the contents in chronological order. Practical !

For this to work perfectly, you must of course grant WAMR permission to access notifications and then let it run in the background, ensuring that Android does not apply energy saving restrictions to it. Next, you should know that WAMR cannot remember deleted messages in a conversation if the discussion is currently open in WhatsApp. Indeed, the app only checks and saves notifications, no notification is displayed if you are chatting with your correspondent or in the group. You will therefore have to think about closing the conversation or not keeping WhatsApp in the foreground to maintain all your chances of recovering a deleted message in this conversation so that notifications of new messages continue to be displayed on the mobile screen. Small bonus: WAMR acts in the same way with Messenger, Instagram or even Facebook. A practical tool that is well worth supporting some advertising.

Finally, note that WAMR is not the only solution for recovering deleted messages in WhatsApp: the app has an automatic backup function which allows you to find all kinds of content. It requires some fairly simple manipulations which we detail in our practical sheet.
