Do you want to read a message on WhatsApp while remaining incognito, without the sender noticing? It’s possible, thanks to these very simple tips that you can use on both Android and iPhone.
When you read a message on WhatsApp, your interlocutor knows it immediately. In fact, you are “betrayed” by a double blue checkmark that appears above as soon as you open the conversation. When the message remains pending, however, a double gray checkmark appears to the right of the last message, indicating that it has been received but that the missive has not yet been opened. And as convenient as WhatsApp is for communicating with your loved ones, it can sometimes happen that you don’t necessarily want to chat after each message you receive. Fortunately, there are several tips for reading your missives in incognito mode, without the sender seeing the famous “seen” display.
The simplest trick is to simply turn off reading notifications. To do this, simply go to the app settings – through “Settings” in the bottom right corner if you’re on iOS, or through the three small dots in the top right menu on Android. Then tap “Privacy” and just uncheck the “Read confirmation” option. And voila ! No contact can so see when you check messages, listen to audios or watch statuses – but be careful, this is valid for all your contacts and all your discussions!
Install the WhatsApp widget on your smartphone
If you don’t want to change your settings, there are other solutions. For example, you can read your messages through your smartphone notifications. Simply pull down the notifications drawer until the text is displayed on the screen. Be careful though, this tip only works with short messages. For long tiles, you must use another means, such as the WhatsApp widget. In fact, these small windows that appear on the home screen of your mobile phone allow you to read and respond to messages without opening the application. And therefore without sending a read notification to your sender. On the majority of smartphones, just long press on the home screen and select “Widgets”. Your device offers you a list of widgets, in which you must select the WhatsApp one, then resize it to be able to take advantage of it.
The final tip is to check your messages in airplane mode. To do this, lower the notifications drawer to see the list of function shortcuts appear. Tap the airplane icon so it lights up, and that’s it! You are now no longer connected to the mobile data network, the confirmation of reading of the conversation will therefore not be sent to your interlocutor. Please note, before leaving airplane mode, make sure to close the application. Otherwise, your correspondent will be notified of your reading as soon as you join the network.
