Do you want to be absolutely sure to be the first to celebrate your loved ones’ Happy New Year? Use this little-known feature of your messaging app for all your wishes from midnight, without even interrupting your New Year’s Eve!
The end of 2023 is fast approaching! It’s time to take out your best outfit to party or meet up with your loved ones over a good meal. Like every New Year’s Eve on the 31st, tradition dictates that you send your wishes to your loved ones. For that, nothing could be simpler than a quick but effective SMS – it’s all the more pleasant to receive if it’s personalized. However, it’s not always easy to send them to all your contacts, especially if you’re in the middle of a party and receive an avalanche of messages at the same time. You risk getting confused, forgetting someone important or, quite simply, starting 2024 with your nose glued to your smartphone, instead of enjoying the people around you and the exhilaration of the moment. . It would be a shame !
Fortunately, there is a simple tip that allows you to send greetings to your directory without neglecting your guests: sending delayed SMS messages. Simply write your message in advance, then schedule it to be sent for New Year’s Eve, at midnight sharp. It requires a little anticipation and organization, but it’s really practical! And, above all, by doing this, you are sure not to forget anyone.
Several SMS applications offer this scheduling function. This is the case with the Google Messages application, which is installed by default on Android devices. The operation is extremely simple and quick. Simply write your message to your correspondent, as you would normally – you can enhance it with images or GIFs – then long press the send button until a new menu appears. Several choices are then available to you: sending the SMS later in the day at 5 p.m., later in the evening at 9 p.m. or the next day at 8 a.m. A fourth option allows you to define the sending date and time yourself. Press it and choose, using the calendar and the clock, the desired date – in this case January 1, 2024 at midnight – and save. Now all you have to do is hit the send key – the usual arrow icon has a little clock next to it. Note that you can modify or delete it at any time!
If you have an iPhone, however, the handling is a little more complicated, because Apple’s Message application does not have such a function. To achieve this, you need to use the Shortcuts application, which allows you to automate certain everyday tasks by scheduling them so that they are carried out at the desired time for you. Press the “Create a personal automation” button, then define the “scenario”, indicating the time and day the message is sent. You must then define the action to take, so choose “Send a message”. All you have to do is press “Message”, write the one you want to send and indicate the recipient. Don’t forget to delete the script when your wishes have been sent!
Be careful, you will certainly not be the only one who wants to wish your loved ones a Happy New Year at this precise moment. If this tip allows you to be sure that your messages will be sent at this precise moment, it is impossible to predict when they will actually be received! Indeed, the network is generally saturated on New Year’s Eve, so some of your messages will certainly arrive later. But at least you can go to bed with peace of mind.
