A real showcase of the news that feeds conversations, social networks and newspapers, the media being particularly fond of tweets, these small messages circulating on Twitter. However, it is not necessary to be a celebrity or a professional to register on Twitter and participate in his permanent flow of press releases. Completely free, this unique social network is open to everyone, both on mobile and on a computer.
Twitter is a social network quite different from Facebook and other Instagram. In fact, it essentially serves to publish, comment and relay succinct text messages – the maximum length of which has been brought to 280 characters after being limited to 140 characters – called tweets, possibly accompanied by links, images, photos or videos. These messages are associated with keywords preceded by a hashtag – the famous symbol # – used to index and easily find subjects.
Twitter allows you to subscribe to members’ accounts to follow their publications. We are talking about followers – followers or subscribers -, and their number constitutes an index of popularity, as on Instagram or YouTube. Some personalities like Barack Obama, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry or Rihanna exceed 100 million subscribers worldwide.
Very oriented on real -time communication, Twitter has become an essential tool to follow the news, alert opinion, share ideas but also to promote and disseminate all kinds of rhymers, especially as it can be used under its real name than under a pseudonym in order to preserve its anonymity.
You can use Twitter on a smartphone or tablet under Android or iOS (iPhone or iPad) thanks to the mobile application of the same name, completely free.
- First, download and install the Twitter app on your device.
- Then open the application and, on the home screen, press the button Create an account.
- On the screen Create your accountComplete the small form indicating the requested information: name and first name, telephone or email address, and date of birth). The field Name is limited to 50 characters. Note that You can protect your anonymity by indicating a nickname, a fanciful name or a pseudonym instead of your true identity. In any case, once your account has been created, you can always modify your username by going to the section Parameters and confidentiality. If the pseudonym you choose is already used, you will be invited to take another. The change of username will not affect your existing subscribers and the history of your account. In addition, upon registration, Twitter insists on having your phone number. If you don’t want to give it, press the link Use an email during the procedure. Finally, the entry of the date of birth takes place using a parading calendar. Be reassured, this date is not displayed publicly! When the form is completed, press Following.
- On the customization screen, check the options you want to activate. You can in particular help your usual contacts to meet you on Twitter according to your email address. Then press Following.
- Check the accuracy of the information you have given for the creation of your account, then press Register.
- Twitter informs you to have sent you a code of verification by email or SMS, depending on the choice made previously. Copy this code and stick it to the field provided for this purpose, then press Following.
- In the next screen, create a password of a minus eight characters to secure access to your account, then press Following.
- Choose a profile image by downloading a photo from your gallery and press Following. To return to this step later, press Pass for the moment.
- Then describe yourself in a few words (160 characters maximum). As before, complete your biography and validate by pressing on Following or pass this step by choosing Go for the moment. A new window of personalization Opens:
- Connect your address book to find your contacts on Twitter by pressing Synchronize contacts Or Later If you do not want to look for the accounts of your friends.
- Then choose the languages you speak in Corcing the corresponding boxesthen press Following.
- Then indicate your interests in the displayed list or by doing research so that Twitter can offer you profiles adapted to your preferences, then press Following. You can also ignore this step by pressing on Go for the moment.
- Twitter offers you some subscription suggestions. Press Follow For those who interest you or do not select anything, then press Following.
- You arrive on the last screen. Press Let’s go To validate your registration on Twitter.
Even if Twitter is mainly designed for mobiles, you can perfectly use it on a computer without installing the slightest software, via a simple web browser like Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari.
- With your usual web browser, go to the site of Twitter.
- On the home page, click the button Register.

- A new window with personalization options is displayed. Check the options you want to activate: you can in particular help contacts to find yourself from your email address, which can be practical then click on Following.
- A summary of the information you have entered is displayed. Make sure everything is correct, then click on Register.
- Twitter sends a checking code to the email address or the phone number you have previously indicated. Open the appropriate application to recover this code and enter it in the field provided for this purpose. Then click on Following.
- In the next screen, define a password at least eight characters for your Twitter account, then click on Following.
- A new window opens. The following steps are not compulsory for the creation of your Twitter account, you can do them later if you wish.
- In particular, you can use a profile image. Import a photo or any other image by clicking on the camera icon or go to the next step by clicking on Go for the moment.
- In the window Describe yourself which appears, write a small presentation text (maximum 160 characters) in the Your organic or put this formality back by clicking on Ignore.
- A window dedicated to your language preferences is displayed. Select the languages you master, then click on Next.
- In the window that appears, choose your favorite themes from the list proposed by Twitter – they are classified by main categories – or pass this step by clicking on Ignore.
- In the window that appears, Twitter offers accounts that can be interested (only personalities). Click on Follow To subscribe. Validate your choices by clicking on Following.
- Finally, you can activate notifications or not by clicking on Allow notifications or on Ignore.
- Your Twitter account is created. You can now complete your profile, subscribe to profiles and start tweeting.
