Do you like sending voice messages with WhatsApp? A very simple trick allows you to record them without keeping your finger pressed on the microphone button. Convenient for regaining freedom of movement!
As you will no doubt have noticed, voice messages have become enormously democratized since their appearance in instant messaging on smartphones such as WhatsApp or Messenger (see our article). Now, in conversations, in addition to traditional written messages, we see more and more audio recordings accompanied by a play button and a small graphic (a waveform that represents sound) . It is a very practical formula for sharing long messages or anecdotes with friends, without having to type text on the keyboard, which allows you to do something else at the same time but also to transmit emotions or information in a more authentic, without risking a typo or a misunderstanding.
The technique most commonly used to send a voice message consists of keeping your finger pressed on the microphone icon throughout the recording. An action that quickly wants to become uncomfortable for messages lasting several minutes, especially as it occupies your hand. However, as few people know, WhatsApp allows you to record voice messages without keeping your finger pressed on the microphone icon, by locking the recording. Even better, one can at the same time navigate freely in the conversation. Admittedly, there are some restrictions since you can neither watch photos or videos, nor type a message, nor switch to another conversation during the recording. But it’s extremely practical on a daily basis because, once the recording has started, you can still put the phone aside!
How to record an audio message on WhatsApp without holding down your finger?
The manipulation to activate the locking of an audio message during its recording is very simple. Here are the steps to follow.
► Open the application and enter the conversation where you want to send an audio message.
► Press microphone icon by keeping your finger pressed, which triggers the recording. A small bar with a padlock appears just above the microphone.
► Slide your finger up – the famous swipe which corresponds to the screen swipe gesture – until you reach padlock icon. You can then release your finger: the recording will continue independently, and you will be free to move.
► When you have finished your audio message, press the small green arrow right to send it. Note that you can also pause your message or delete it before it is sent using the red Pause button and the gray trash can on the right.
► There you go, your audio message is sent!
