Working as if you didn’t have children and raising your children as if you didn’t have a job… Society is not really adapted to active parenthood. Here are the signs and advice for better managing family and work according to Anne Peymirat, parental coach.
One parent in eight works and two-thirds of children have two working parents. However, society is not adapted to the active parenting. “The parent who has children and who works has a double pressure. That of being invested in your work and having a career that lasts, and that of raising your children by being the perfect parent who gives them everything”explains Anne Peymirat, parenting coach, who addresses this subject in her book The wonder parent syndrome, working as if you didn’t have children and raising your children as if you didn’t have a job (Payot editions).

How do you know if you have wonder parent syndrome?
Many parents are affected by this syndrome, but when you are already running around, it is difficult to realize it. Here are the signs that should alert you:
- The parents generally feel guilt, both parental and professional.
- There is also the feeling of not feeling accomplished. And that obviously causes stress.
- The feeling of being useless everywhere: “That is to say not to be the good parent that one should be and also not to be the good collaborator at the professional level because one does not put the energy and the means that one supposed to be expected of us”.
- The wonder parent syndrome leads to an individual feeling of failure. “You feel bad at work and at home, because you can’t reach the ideal set by society of being a perfect parent while not giving up at work. The problem is systemic and not individual.”
