“Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom” is the newest installment of the successful franchise. But do you absolutely have to have seen the first films before discovering this one?
Successful franchise since 1968 brought up to date in 2011, The Planet of the Apes returns to the cinema this Wednesday. This new episode, entitled Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdomalmost resets the franchise with a strong concept: 300 Years after Caesar’s death, camps of primates live in harmony while humans have regressed to the wild and almost disappeared. But a new leader uses Caesar’s teaching to enslave the other camps to his cause.
Unlike the latest films with Andy Serkis in the role of Caesar, it is not absolutely necessary to have seen the rest of the franchise to discover this new Planet of the Apes. This episode in fact resets the counters to zero with new characters, a new context and new issues, so that spectators will not necessarily be lost when watching the film. You simply need to know that primates have acquired intelligence and regained power over humans.
The references to previous episodes are explained, in particular the doctrine of Caesar which is preserved by some, corrupted by others, forgotten for the majority. Fans of the franchise will undoubtedly spot winks, without others being lost. Directed by Wes Ball, this opus therefore creates a clever bridge between respect for the heritage of the franchise and the opening of a new era. Synopsis – 300 years after Caesar’s death, several camps of primates live in the haven, while humans have regressed to the wild outside their territory. While some clans have corrupted and dogmatized Caesar’s teaching, a new leader attempts to unify the different camps using human technology. At the same time, Noa, a monkey who escaped slavery, meets a human woman.
