Selling off things is a popular way to stretch the household economy. Others prefer to buy used to keep expenses down.
Recently, sales on second-hand sites such as Vinted, Sellpy, Tradera and Blocket have increased as inflation has taken a tight hold on the Swedes’ economy.
But when you make money by advertising online and selling everything from clothes and interior design to home electronics and mobile phones, the sites also make money from you.

Trade: That’s why more people buy used mobiles
Something that has really proven to be favorable to sell on the buying and selling site Tradera is mobile phones. News24 have previously spoken to the company’s communications manager, Sofia Hagelinwho told us that sales increased by 21 percent – just in the fall of 2024 compared to the same period last year.
And it is a specific type of mobile that attracts the most buyers, namely “modern” mobile phones.
– Sales of Android phones have increased by 17 percent, and iPhone Ios by 24 percent. The current economy, combined with a greater awareness of the downsides of new consumption, means that more people choose used mobile phones instead of buying new ones. It is a new, modern lifestyle that more and more people are adopting, Hagelin has previously said.
The button phones are sold for thousands of kroner
But it is not only modern mobile phones that attract buyers. Even old rarities in the form of push-button telephones also attract sales where prices tend to skyrocket.
Nyheter24 has also written about the mobile phones Nokia N92 and Ericson R310S. The former was confiscated for SEK 10,000 after bidding in 2023, and the Ericson mobile was sold for just over SEK 6,000 after bidding ended.
In other words, interest in older mobile phones has obviously increased.
– I think that in the future these older button phones will mainly be bought for nostalgia reasons and it will become a new collector’s item. Just like the craze for 1980s Walkmans, vintage gameboys and cassette players, there is a retro charm to many of the older push-button phones that many people like and are willing to pay for.

However, if you want to make a lot of money, you need to advertise a newer mobile phone.
One of the more modern variants was bid for SEK 21,699 last year – the highest bid for the model throughout the year.
The phone in question is an iPhone 14 Pro Max with a terabyte of storage space, in unopened packaging.
So if you have a mobile phone lying around at home, you can earn tens of thousands of kroner if the bidding takes off.
