Do you drive a diesel car Thats how you save

Adblue was introduced in connection with the Euro 6 emission requirements, which regulate emissions of nitrogen oxides from diesel cars, coming into force on 1 September 2014.

Diesel cars with emission class Euro 6 are equipped with a dedicated tank for Adblue, which must be topped up by the car owner at regular intervals – otherwise the engine will stop.

We Car Owners has mapped the price of Adblue, and discovered that the prices can differ greatly between different stores and in what form the liquid is sold. Prices may also differ between different parts of the country.

Adblue is a requirement in a modern diesel car

Adblue is a urea-based liquid with ammonia as an active substance.

The liquid is injected into a so-called SCR catalyst in the car’s exhaust system, where ammonia from the Adblue liquid reacts with the nitrogen oxides in the hot exhaust gases and converts them into harmless nitrogen and water vapor.

The Adblue tank on most cars has a volume of around 10 litres, and filling takes place through a blue cap which is either behind the car’s tank cap or under the bonnet.

According to We Bilägare, consumption is normally between three and five percent of fuel consumption. When the fluid runs out, the car cannot be driven.

Prices vary considerably

We car owners have compiled what it costs to buy ten liters of Adblue in different stores, and the difference is big.

It is most expensive to buy your Adblue in a can from the big gas station chains. The most expensive is Preem, which charges SEK 415 for ten litres.

OKQ8 and Circle K both charge SEK 379 for ten liters, while the price at Shell and St1 is SEK 289.

Cheapest ways to buy Adblue

Buying ten liters of Adblue in a can is significantly cheaper if you go to a larger store instead of buying at the grocery store.

At Granngården, 10 liters of Adblue are sold for SEK 239. If you go to the low-price chains Jula and Biltema, the price drops all the way down to 159 and 149 kroner respectively for ten litres.

However, the cheapest way to get away is if you don’t buy your Adblue in cans, but from the pumps that are found at many supermarkets next to the diesel pumps.

Then you get away with less than SEK 100 for ten liters at Shell, St1, Preem and OKQ8.

The cheapest of these are Shell and St1 with a price of SEK 91.90 for ten litres. Circle K does not state what the price is for Adblue at the pump.
