The more we focus on what’s happening on the screen, the greater the danger. A new study conducted by Talker Research examined the number of days lost to scrolling digital content in a month.
THEY SPEND FIVE DAYS A MONTH ON A SCREEN
The study was conducted on 2,000 people to find that the average person loses three days a year to scrolling. The results are worse for younger people, as they lose almost five days a month to scrolling and binge-watching content on their screens.
MEDIA CONSUMPTION AND POOR MENTAL HEALTH
The survey showed that the average person consumes six hours of content per day, while Gen Zers consume close to seven hours of content.
The survey divided participants based on their self-reported responses regarding mental health. It was observed that 19% of the participants who said their mental health was very poor consumed media content at least 15 days a month. People who self-reported good mental health showed the fewest days lost to media consumption.
FEELING OF GUILT AND STRESS
The survey also observed a disturbing link between media consumption and mental health. People who consume more media were found to report feeling guilty about over-consuming media and feeling stressed about something they saw online.
38% of respondents who reported having very poor mental health were also regular TikTok users.
