US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth warns European NATO members to take US military presence in Europe for granted.
– That is why our message to our European allies is so sharp. Now it is high time to invest, you cannot assume that the US presence will be forever, he says at a press conference in Warsaw.
Since US President Donald Trump, earlier this week, agreed with his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin to initiate conversations about ending the Ukraine war, the unrest has grown in several parts of Europe for such a peace to happen on Russian terms. The issue dominates the weekend’s security conference in Munich.
Earlier on Friday, the conference chairman Christoph Heusgen in German radio said he suspects that US Vice President JD Vance, who is in Munich, will announce that a large part of the US forces will be withdrawn from Europe.
