High cholesterol is often overlooked because it doesn’t accompany any warning signs, but it can be linked to a certain type of pain that you should never underestimate.
INCREASES THE RISK OF HEART ATTACK
Excessive levels of cholesterol in your blood can lead to blockages in your arteries, increasing the risk of heart attack. Therefore, your cholesterol level is an important health problem that needs to be controlled.
A LINK WAS FOUND WITH TENDON PAIN
Recent research has revealed links between high cholesterol and certain physical changes. The study, reviewed in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, found a link between high cholesterol levels and tendon pain. The study noted that tendon pain was more common in people with severely high cholesterol levels.
To learn more, researchers conducted a meta-analysis that combined and compared the results of multiple studies.
SIGNIFICANTLY HIGH CHOLESTEROL
All of these studies investigated cholesterol levels and tendon structure or tendon pain. A total of 17 studies comprising 2,612 participants were eligible for inclusion in the review. Researchers discovered that people with altered tendon structure or tendon pain had significantly higher total cholesterol.
“The results of this review suggest a relationship between an individual’s lipid profile and tendon health,” the researchers concluded.
