Do not go to popular destination 2025

Last year, 18.7 million tourists visited the Balearian archipelago (whose largest islands are Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formera). This is an increase of five percent compared to 2023 – which was also a record year.

In an open letter, seven Spanish environmental organizations, including environmental activists GOB, Menys Turism Més Vida (LESS Tourism More Life) and SOS Residents, appeal to tourists who plan to visit the holiday pearl Mallorca.

The message is clear: Don’t come here.

Several of the measures that the Balearic government planned to introduce to remedy the overturism at the resort is not expected to be implemented until next year, writes Majorca Daily Bulletin.

This upsets the public – and now you are urging tourists to stay away. The island has been “pressed to unprecedented borders,” the organizations write in the letter:

“Our leaders do not listen to us; it is time to ask you not to come here. We do not need more tourists; in fact you are the source of our problem. At this moment we have nothing more than to ask for your understanding and that you understand that we, the residents of Mallorca, say: Stay at home!”

In addition to politicians, “greedy” hotel owners, tour operators and real estate investors are accused of marketing the destination and promoting tourism.
