Do not compare monkey pox with covid

On Friday, the government decided to classify monkey pox as a general dangerous disease. But that does not mean that people need to be worried, according to Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S).

– There is no reason to link monkey pox with covid-19 and all that it raises in people when it comes to concerns about the disease and social measures. There will be no restrictions with restrictions on how we live due to monkey pox. There are no such plans, says Hallengren to SvD.

On the other hand, it is important to classify the disease as generally dangerous, the Minister believes, as it will then be subject to notification in accordance with the rules of the Communicable Diseases Act and it will be possible to trace and limit infection.

Other common dangerous diseases are, for example, salmonella, HIV and chlamydia.
