Şenel, who also works at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital, said that Turkey has reached world standards in burn treatment, especially in 20 years.
Emphasizing that the same burn standards in Europe and the USA are applied in Turkey, Şenel stated that they now host academic activities related to burns.
Pointing out that burns are significant trauma, Şenel said, “Approximately 400 thousand people apply to hospitals due to burns every year. 200 thousand of them are children and 200 thousand are adults. The most common are hot water burns due to home accidents, and the second most common is electrical burns. In some burn cases, it is much more severe.” “We see major burns in teapot and bathroom accidents. Mostly adolescent children can get seriously burned from electricity.” he said.
Şenel noted that Turkey also provides services to the surrounding geography in terms of burns, and that there are many burn cases, especially from the Syrian region, and that the state treats all of them free of charge.
“DO NOT TRY TO USE SOMETHING ON THE BURN”
Pointing out that one of the most important causes of tram-related deaths in the world is burns, Şenel continued as follows:
“We can lose these patients, especially if the first aid is not given correctly and if they cannot be treated correctly in proper centers. The number of deaths due to burns in the world is not small at all. Burns are trauma that can result in death and are very serious. That is why it is very important to give the first aid and treatment correctly. After being burned, taking off the clothes, warming up It is necessary to reduce the contact time. If a small organ, hand or arm is burned, it is necessary to keep it under tap water for 15-20 minutes. Do not try to apply anything on the burn, such as oil or teeth. “We have seen people crushing paste and olives and applying all kinds of things. Do not apply anything, there is no point. Cover it with a clean cloth and take it to the hospital.”
Şenel warned that applying non-sterile material to the burn can increase the risk of infection and cause permanent scars.
Stating that the risk of death increases in burn cases as the age of the child decreases, Şenel said, “In addition to the risk of death in children, there is also the issue of scarring. This affects the whole life of children physically, spiritually and psychologically. Especially when the face and hand areas are burned, leaving scars there affects both the child and the family in the future.” .” he said.
Şenel added that a very large team has been trained in Turkey in 20 years to perform all burn-related surgeries, and that physiotherapy needs are met after all burn-related surgeries in 74 units and centers.
