The Discrimination Ombudsman (DO) believes that a doctor exposed a woman to discrimination during a visit to a health center in Uppsala, UNT reports.
The patient sought care for an ailment on a body part not covered by her headscarf. Nevertheless, the doctor asked the woman to remove the headscarf.
According to Region Uppsala, the doctor did it to be able to see “the whole patient to ensure a complete skin suit”.
DO believes, however, that the health center did not provide a reasonable explanation for the doctor’s actions and requests that the region pay SEK 70,000 in compensation to the woman, as the authority believes that the doctor discriminated against the patient.
The region must have taken a position on the DO’s demands by February 12 at the latest, otherwise the DO may submit a lawsuit to the district court.
