DNA experts from Linköping will help Ukraine identify the victims of the war

The method has been developed by DNA experts at the Forensic Medicine Agency in Linköping together with the US defense and has been named Force.

The technology has higher sensitivity and makes it possible to obtain DNA information from very little or damaged DNA – for example, from a body that has been left out in nature for a long time. It is also able to identify more distant relatives. Hear forensic geneticist Andreas Tillmar tell more in the video above.

It has taken several years to develop the technology that began to be used in Sweden this spring. With the help of the new method, they have been able to solve more complicated paternity cases, even though they did not have the father’s DNA. Andreas Tillmar has also trained representatives from Vietnam in the dna technology to be able to identify those who died after the Vietnam War.

    – Now that we have used the method in a few cases, we see that we were able to provide answers to some questions that we were previously unable to provide answers to. Of course it feels great, says Andreas Tillmar.
