Police on Sunday arrested a 29-year-old Chatham man and charged him after using DNA evidence to link him to an October 2022 store robbery on King Street West in Chatham.
Police say the accused entered the store on Oct. 20 and demanded cash. After receiving some money, he left the store, discarded his clothing, which included a scarf, gloves and wig.
With the help of surveillance footage, police tracked the man’s path and found the discarded items.
The items were examined for their forensic value. A DNA profile was generated and matched a local resident, police were told Jan. 18 by the Center of Forensic Sciences.
The suspect was found and arrested on Jan. 29. He was charged with robbery and held pending a bail hearing.
