Djokovic and Alcaraz once again stretched into an epic match

The Australian Open saw yet another epic generational battle between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

37 years old Novak Djokovic did not give a 21-year-old Carlos Alcarazin surprises himself in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open tennis tournament. The Serbian, already hunting for his 25th Grand Slam tournament victory, won the match after 3 hours and 37 minutes of fighting 4–6, 6–4, 6–3, 6–4 3 and already took his third victory over Alcaraz on a hard surface. The match ended around one in the morning.

During his career, Djokovic has won the Australian tournament ten times, Alcaraz has reached the quarterfinals of the tournament twice now.

– I just wish this had been the final. One of the most epic matches I’ve played on this field. Or on any court, Djokovic said.

The loss crushed Alcaraz’s dreams of making history at least this year. Had he won the Australian tournament, he would have become the youngest male player to win all four Grand Slams. Alcaraz has won the US Open 2022, Wimbledon 2023 and 2024, and the French Open 2024.

The encounters between the two have been amazing matches. I still remember last summer’s Olympics in Paris, when Djokovic won the Olympic gold in front of the Spaniard after two breakaway games 7–6, 7–6.

Djokovic will face Germany’s Alexander Zverev, who defeated the United States, in the semifinals Tommy Paul’s 7–6, 7–6, 2–6, 6–1.
