DJI Stops Drone Shipment to Russia and Ukraine

DJI has suspended all shipments to Russia and Ukraine to reduce the armament of drones. This means that Aeroscopes will no longer be functional in Russia and Ukraine.

DJI, outside of the original designs of its products for war purposes says that it is worried about the use of it and therefore will no longer provide after-sales support. This is a big move by the Chinese drone manufacturer that should impress both sides in the ongoing conflict.

Ukraine at the beginning of the war in February, Supporting DJI with AeroScope resources to aid the Russian war effort had accused. both Russia and Ukrainedeployed DJI drones mainly for reconnaissance. However, there are stories that some drones were armed by Ukraine.

After the war, many western companies suspended doing business with Russia; however, DJI insisted on its continued sales in March. It’s unclear what prompted DJI’s quick decision. Beijing and Moscow have a strong relationship, but the Chinese government has so far cautious during war behaved. The company says it constantly tries to stay away from geopolitics, and the current crisis is one of them.

DJI’s neutral stance in the current crisis, won’t prevent the emergence of newer DJI drones in the two countries. DJI, does not sell directly in both countries, it will stop shipments to both countries. This is also new AeroScope means that their licenses will not be issued and there will be no license renewals.

It is not clear which countries will feel the impact of the DJI movement more intensely. While Moscow continues to grapple with a strict sanctions regime; Kyiv became a kind of bride and received great military aid from Germany, the USA and Britain. Some of the drone assets delivered to Ukraine are of the highest quality.
