Major General Peter Vorhofer, Head of the Defense Policies and International Relations Unit of the Austrian Armed Forces, shared the “2024 Risk Report” with the public at the joint press conference he held with the Minister of Defense Klaudia Tanner in Vienna.
“THE POSSIBILITY OF WAR IS VERY HIGH”
Stating that the possibility of confrontation between the EU and Russia is at the top of this year’s risk report, Vorhofer said, “This means that we are very likely to experience a hybrid war in 2024.” said.
Vorhofer claimed that the disorder related to wars and conflicts in the world will continue for at least 20 more years, and touched upon other risky situations that will affect Austria this year, apart from the war.
Pointing out the disruptions that may occur in the supply chain due to conflicts, the negativities caused by the migration wave, the danger of cyber attacks and fake news, Vorhofer also underlined the risk of external elements attempting to sabotage the integration processes in Europe.

Minister of Defense Tanner also pointed out the importance of cooperation in Europe against the risks in question and said, “Even if the world gets out of control, we should not comply.” he said.
Tanner reminded that due to the risks involved, neutral Austria was included in the European Sky Shield Initiative led by Germany.
