During his wishes on Tuesday December 31, Emmanuel Macron returned to the dissolution of the National Assembly. He also indicated that the French would be called upon to “decide” on “decisive issues” in 2025.
During his wishes for the year 2025, Emmanuel Macron began by commenting on a video of the successes of the year 2024, such as the inclusion of abortion in the Constitution, the 80 years of the Liberation, but also the Olympic Games of Paris 2024. “Together, this year, we have proven that impossible is not French,” said the President of the Republic who called on the French to be “united, determined, solidarity” in 2025. After expressing his support for the inhabitants of Mayotte, affected by Cyclone Chido a few days earlier, he reversed his decision to dissolve the National Assembly in June. “I must recognize that it has brought more divisions than solutions for the French,” said the President of the Republic.
“If I decided to dissolve, it was to give you back your voice, to find clarity and avoid the immobility that threatened. But lucidity and humility require us to recognize that at this time, this decision has produces more instability than serenity and I take all my part in it,” admitted Emmanuel Macron in a sort of mea culpa. The president considered that the National Assembly represented “the country in its diversity and therefore also in its divisions”, underlined RTL. He also sent his wishes to the government of François Bayrou before hoping that 2025 would be the year of “collective recovery”.
In 2025, the French will “decide” on “decisive issues”
“We will have choices to make for our economy, our democracy, our security, our children,” said Emmanuel Macron. “In 2025, we will continue to decide and I will also ask you to decide on some of these determining issues,” he added, paving the way for possible referendums for the coming year. Franceinfo notes that new citizens’ conventions could also be organized.
Finally, the president promised that he would “ensure” that France “continues to be attractive”, “works and innovates more” and that it “ensures its growth while maintaining its finances”. At the European level, the Head of State asked the continent to “accelerate to take charge of its defense, its security, its borders”. According to him, France “will have to continue to invest in its military rearmament to guarantee our sovereignty, the protection of our interests and the security of our compatriots.” He called for a “European awakening”, “scientific, intellectual, technological, industrial awakening, an agricultural, energy and ecological awakening”.
