With The Little Mermaid, Disney is reissuing its own popular animated film The Little Mermaid. At the May 25, 2023 the remake will come to German cinemas. Now the first teaser trailer (more than a year after the first picture) granted a look under the sea surface – and on the new leading lady Halle Baileywho already has a lot of singing experience.

The latest in Disney’s live-action reimaginings of well-known animated classics, Ariel the Little Mermaid is just around the corner. When it comes to the story, Disney is not so much based on the dark Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale template, but on its own animated one musical from 1989. Consequently, there is a lot of singing again in the remake.

Directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into the Woods), the little mermaid in Disney’s remake dreams of getting to know the world of people above sea level better. What follows is a fateful deal with a sea witch that not only leaves Ariel with two legs but also the loss of her voice. In the first teaser trailer you can now get a first glimpse of the one played by Halle Bailey reinterpretation from Arielle (as well as her fish friend Fabius).
