Disney + will (a lot) increase its prices despite the arrival of advertising

EPN in Eastern Ukraine People are very worried This will

As part of the announcement of its quarterly financial results, Disney + takes the opportunity to announce an increase in the price of its subscription by the end of the year. An increase that will coincide with the arrival of its offer including advertising.

Bad news if you were hoping that the arrival of advertising on Disney+ would prevent a price increase. The entertainment giant confirms today the increase in the price of its offer without advertising from December 8th.

Disney+ announces price increases

Last year, Disney + had already increased its prices in the United States, increasing its subscription without advertising (the only one available for the moment) from 6.99 to 7.99 dollars. Today, the company announces that the rate will increase further from December 8, from $7.99 to $10.99, an increase of approximately 27%. A new price that concerns only those who wish to keep their subscription as it is today, that is to say without advertising.

Disney+ will therefore not be cheaper with advertising, but at the same price as the subscription that we know today. The company specifies that the ad-supported subscription will be called “Disney + Basic” and that the ad-free version will be renamed “Disney + Premium”.

For those willing to make concessions, a new subscription with ads will be offered at the same time, at the old price of the ad-free version, which is $7.99. Thus, Disney wishes to “sweeten the pill” of the price increase by offering this alternative. Kareem Daniel, president of Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution, defends this new strategy:

“With our new ad-supported Disney+ offering and an expanded range of subscriptions across our entire streaming catalog, we will offer consumers more choices at different price points, to meet the diverse needs of our viewers and attract a even wider audience. »

What catalog of content, quantity of advertising and price in France?

If there is good news in all this, it is that the content catalog should be the same for all subscriptions. Unfortunately, this is not the case for the Netflix subscription with advertising, which should be cut off from certain content. Disney also specifies that advertising will be limited to an average of four minutes per hour. It now remains to be seen how these advertising spots will be positioned between the content or in full viewing.

What about prices in France? If the date of December 8 has only been confirmed for the United States, it’s a safe bet that this price increase should arrive here. Currently, Disney + is 8.99 euros in France, without advertising. If we apply a 27% increase, this would lead us to a price of around 11.99 euros for the “Disney + Premium” subscription. This would still be cheaper than Netflix, whose Standard offer is 13.49 euros and the Premium offer is 17.99 euros…
