A turning point for series fans is imminent. The title “Doctor Who” makes some people’s eyes light up, others just question marks. A huge cult has formed around the British sci-fi series. The fact that it hasn’t really arrived in Germany so far is mainly due to its availability.
If you want to stream the new episodes of Doctor Who in this country, you have to resort to expensive season passes or a subscription to the BBC Player Channel. Neither Netflix nor Amazon Prime had the series on offer. Now the third major streaming service is stepping in.

Doctor Who – S14 Teaser Trailer (English) HD
As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, Disney+ will take over the broadcast of all new seasons of Doctor Who from 2023. At least outside of the UK and Ireland, where the original broadcaster BBC is responsible. You read that right: First of all, it’s about all new squadrons.
Whether or when Disney + the enormous catalog from over 39 seasons or at least part of it, is not clear from the article. The deal also includes the upcoming 40th season (or the 14th of the revival), which is scheduled to begin in November 2023.
Long-established fans can hardly believe their luck either way. But even those who have had little or no contact with the series can be happy. Because Doctor Who basically starts all over again every few years: Perfect for newcomers to the time travel vortex.

What is Doctor Who about?
Doctor Who has been running since 1963. It even holds a Guinness record as the longest-running sci-fi series. On Moviepilot, Doctor Who achieved an unsurpassed score of 8.5 points out of 10. Only Firefly and Arcane keep up in the “Sci-Fi” category.
What is Doctor Who about? Roughly speaking, it’s about the adventures of the mysterious Time Lord called the Doctor. He travels through time and space in his spaceship called TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) to explore the universe and, together with his respective companions, encounters extraterrestrial life forms or other curiosities. The TARDIS looks like a British police box from the outside, but is much larger on the inside.
The doctor is embodied by changing actors, most recently by Jodie Whittaker. Just this week it was announced that the popular David Tennant will reprise the role before Ncuti Gatwa from the Netflix series Sex Education embodies the character as the 15th Doctor in the series’ history.
