Dismissed by critics and the public, this science fiction film is nevertheless entitled to a sequel on Netflix

Dismissed by critics and the public this science fiction film

Despite very mixed reviews, this science fiction film will be entitled to a sequel on Netflix. And this one has every chance of being a hit again.

Not all films that are entitled to a sequel are necessarily great critical successes, far from it. The proof once again on Netflix, which is releasing the sequel to one of its blockbusters which, although it had been viewed by many spectators at the time of its release, did not obtain good reviews from the press and public.

Space opera directed by Zack Snyder, Rebel Moon: The Slasher is the second part of the film released last December on Netflix. The plot will pick up where we left off the characters: Kora and her warriors fight alongside the inhabitants of Veldt, who see their village threatened by the Mother World. Everyone will have to confront their past before the battle against the forces of the Kingdom.

Highly anticipated to the point of being entitled to a sequel, the first episode of Rebel Moon had not, however, obtained critical support, whether in France or throughout the world. On Rotten Tomatoes, the blockbuster had only 24% positive reviews from the press, when Metacritic gave it a score of 31/100. On Allociné, the feature film obtained a press rating of 2.6/5, with 13 press titles having posted a review. For Cinemateaser, the director “strangely lacked drive and conviction”, while Télé-Loisirs felt that “the result did not live up to expectations”. Première, for its part, judged the feature film to be “ill-inspired”, “too lame, too poorly written, too badly acted […] not crazy enough.”

But despite these negative opinions for this sub-Star Wars with Z ack Snyder sauce, the first Rebel Moon hovered over the ranking of Netflix’s most viewed programs at the time of its release at the end of December. When we look at the figures, we realize that its launch was more than timid, with more than 72.9 million views according to the figures available on Tudum, 90 million according to the director, which remains low. compared to other blockbusters released at this time of year, like Don’t Look Up And Glass Onionswhich have between 100 and 200 million views.

Despite this ranking, reviews were not more positive. Nearly 520 Metacritic users gave it a score of 5.8/10. In France, 2,815 have rated the film to date, with an average result of 2.5/5. So disappointing reviews. Because if the second opus will soon see the light of day, it is because the first two films were shot at the same time, and split into two. Rebel Moon: Part 2 will it be better than the first episode and will it finally create a surprise? It can indeed attract the curious and fans of the genre. Answer April 19 on Netflix.
