In addition to the general directors of Electricité de Guinée and the National Petroleum Company, officials of the National Mining Infrastructure Development Agency were also thanked.

This series of dismissals comes 48 hours after a power outage which plunged the Guinean capital into darkness.

On the evening of Thursday March 14, Conakry experienced one of the most significant power cuts in recent years, which affected almost the entire city. The reason: an incident on a high voltage pylon on the outskirts, according to the national electricity company.

The outage led to a series of demonstrations during the night from Thursday to Friday in almost all districts of Conakry with, in places, significant material damage. According to hospital sources, a young 25-year-old artist, Cé Bénoît Solomy, lost his life during these demonstrations. He was originally from Yalenzou, in the far southeast of the country, according to these same sources.

Following this outage, the Guinean Prime Minister, Amadou Oury Bah, convened an emergency working meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, to ask those responsible for the energy sector to present explanations on the situation and establish the responsibilities.

Similar power cuts were recorded last week in the town of Kindia, 130 kilometers east of Conakry, also causing clashes in which two teenagers were killed.
