The tennis player, seeded number 2, lost in two sets (7-6) [7]6-2), after leading 4-1 then 5-3 with a set point in her favour in the first set. Pushed to the tie break, the American still had two set points but was unable to convert them, unlike Vekic. Affected by morale, Coco Gauff cracked during the second set, beside herself after a contentious point, to the point of letting go and finishing the match with tears in her eyes. A candidate for Olympic gold in the individual, she only has the mixed doubles left with Taylor Fritz.
