Even Boris Johnson, known for his political survival skills, has his limits. The Prime Minister’s fate was met by his party, which longs for normality in politics, writes Pasi Möhänen from London.

LONDON Today it became clear that even Boris Johnson is not above political laws of nature.

The pressure became too strong, when even the ministers appointed only the other day demanded his resignation. In the end, Johnson announced at a press conference that he would step down as Conservative leader and Prime Minister.

Even when he took office, there were strong doubts that Johnson was not fit to be prime minister. And lack of judgment and dishonesty were the biggest factors that led to his fate.

There are many examples, but above all, the so-called corona party scandal ruined Johnson’s popularity in a way from which there was no return. The British people and party members couldn’t get over the fact that Johnson broke the harsh corona laws by allowing parties at his official residence and seemed to lie to everyone about it.

Disappointment with Johnson has also been created by the fact that it is difficult to find a common thread in the policy he created. Everything has been promised to everyone, but despite the promises, clear actions to help the less fortunate part of the population that wanted Brexit, for example, have not been implemented.

Johnson’s critics hope that at least a touch more honesty – and normality – could be brought into British politics

The race for the position of the leader of the Conservative Party and at the same time the British Prime Minister is already in full swing, but there is no clear front-runner.

Britain’s direction may not change radically, for example, in EU issues with the new leader. However, Johnson’s critics hope that at least a touch more honesty – and normality – could be brought into British politics.

According to polls, the people struggling with a difficult cost of living crisis want the country’s leadership to focus on finding practical solutions instead of constant political scandals and political initiatives created for the eye.

Johnson’s legacy is, above all, that he implemented the exit from the EU according to his election promise. However, he implemented Brexit in a hasty way that Johnson himself was ultimately not happy with. Therefore, the steep interpretation of the decision to leave the EU has also left an unnecessarily heavy national economic price as a legacy.

Johnson has today appointed new ministers and wants to sit in the Prime Minister’s place in an acting role until the fall. The departure from the Downing Street office may come even sooner, as vocal conservative colleagues demand another acting prime minister, for example a deputy prime minister Dominic Raabappointment already today.
