Disgusting surprise – Hanemåla School in Nybro served beetles in the broccoli soup

It was because of the organic broccoli that the beetles managed to slip into the soup. Students at the school discovered the beetles in their soup at lunch.

Johan Törnqvist, who is the first chef in Nybro Municipality, thinks it is sad that it was the children who found the pests.

– I hope that the children will not be afraid of organic products or broccoli soup as it was in this case, says Johan Törnqvist.

“Easy for creeps to come along”

The organic broccoli used in the soup was frozen and portion-packaged. Johan Törnqvist explains that there are often pests in organic products.

– You don’t use the same spray as the regular vegetables, and so it’s easy for insects to get involved, says Johan Törnqvist.

The children at the school say that they thought it was disgusting that students found beetles in their soup, but they also understand that such a thing can happen.

One way to prevent pests in school food is to stop buying organic products, but Johan Törnqvist says that you will continue as you want to continue to benefit nature.
