Disgusting sci fi horror from the legendary director appears uncut as

In addition to classics such as Videodrome and The Fly, master director David Cronenberg also started small. His first feature film Shivers, which got the somewhat more catchy title Parasite Murderer in Germany, already has many of the Canadian’s trademarks.

Sci-fi horror was banned in Germany for 25 years. After the first releases in limited media books were sold out after de-indexing, the label is now following up with fresh releases in the best 4K quality. Horror and Cronenberg fans should not miss this.

Early Cronenberg horror unleashes sex zombie pandemic between loathing and fascination

The focus of the plot is a residential complex in which a disgusting parasite is up to mischief. The slimy worm creature’s victims turn into zombie-like creatures who attack each other with lust or sex obsession.

As in most of his films, Cronenberg combines disgusting body horror with surprising depth for Parasite Killer. In addition to the fantastic handmade effects and a haunting staging, the director even sympathizes with the parasite epidemic. For him, the rough sci-fi horror chaos is an opportunity for new structures and a rebellion against long-established habits. A slimy sex zombie rebellion!

The Cronenberg film was banned for a long time

According to editing reports, Cronenberg’s feature film debut was indexed uncut from 1982 to 2007 and was therefore not allowed to be sold or advertised. After the indexing was lifted, the film was released in a FSK re-examination from the age of 16. In 2019, media books appeared for the first time, which are no longer available.

NSM Records released on June 30, 2023 new Mediabooks with five different covers. Amazon will start shipping the new editions on July 14, 2023. The bonus material includes two synchronized versions, audio commentaries, a featurette with film scholar Marcus Stiglegger, an interview with David Cronenberg and a 24-page booklet with a text by film critic Manfred Riepe.
