Discussing the side effects of the vaccine in Germany

Researchers called for action on vaccine complications. The research conducted by Berlin Charité, one of Germany’s leading medical faculties, on the side effects of coronavirus vaccines has rekindled the vaccine debate.

prof. Dr. A year-long study under the direction of Harald Matthes has revealed that cases of side effects from coronavirus vaccines are 40 times higher than in the records of the Paul-Ehrlich Institute (PEI), the agency responsible for vaccine safety in Germany.

The research, based on the questions that 40,000 people vaccinated against coronavirus across Germany answered at regular intervals about the effects of the vaccine, shows that eight out of 1,000 vaccinated people experience severe side effects. According to PEI figures, only 0.2 severe adverse events per 1000 doses have been reported.

“The result is not surprising”

Speaking to the German public broadcasting organization MDR, Prof.Dr. Harald Matthes stated that the result is in line with the figures in other countries such as Sweden, Israel and Canada, and that it is not surprising, and noted that similar results were obtained in the researches of vaccine manufacturers. Matthes pointed out that the rate of severe side effects is much lower in vaccines produced by traditional methods such as polio and measles.

Symptoms that persist for weeks or months after vaccination and require medical treatment are classified as “severe side effects”. Muscle and joint pain, inflammation of the heart muscle, excessive reactions of the immune system, disorders in the nervous system are included in this class.

500 thousand severe cases at 179 million doses

prof. Dr. Matthes noted that side effects, including severe side effects, usually begin to subside after three to six months, with 80 percent of patients recovering, although some may take longer.

Pointing out that 179 million doses of vaccine have been administered in Germany so far, Matthes said, “If severe side effects are seen in approximately 500 thousand cases in Germany after Covid vaccines, we need to act as doctors. We need to discuss it publicly at congresses without being labeled as ‘anti-vaccine’. ” said.

“Anti-vaccine” edition

Stating that patients exposed to severe side effects are mostly not taken seriously and left alone, Matthes noted that doctors do not usually associate symptoms with the vaccine, either because they are not prepared or because they avoid being seen as a party in a political debate. Matthes stated that the patients who reached them told that they had been going door to door for months for an effective treatment, which explained that suspicious cases were not reflected in the official records.

Andreas Schöfbeck, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BKK Provita, the health insurance institution in Germany, announced in April that there were significant differences between insurance records and PEI figures regarding vaccine side effects, and requested a meeting with PEI to share the data they had. Schöfbeck was dismissed from his post on charges of being “anti-vaccine” before he could hold this meeting.

German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach also pioneered the initiative to introduce a mandatory vaccination, arguing that coronavirus vaccines have no side effects. However, none of the legislative proposals submitted to the Bundestag in March on the vaccination obligation reached the required majority. The government is signaling that it will attempt new legislation in the fall.

Long overlaps with Covid symptoms

Pointing out that many of the symptoms known from the long Covid disease overlap with the side effects of the vaccine, Matthes emphasized that specialized clinics should also be opened to patients who are exposed to vaccine complications. Stating that intensive care units and dialysis centers that are experienced in blood washing (apheresis) as well as neurology and cardiology can be involved in the treatment, Matthes noted that they are trying to develop effective treatment against vaccine complications.

prof. Dr. Matthes stated that the main cause of the problem is the antibodies (autoantibodies) developed by the body against its own cells. Or it needs to be removed from the blood by a special blood washing method,” he said.
