A cinema anchored in reality. Nollywood perfectly combines reality and imagination, estimates Serge Noukoué, creator of the festival, at the microphone ofOlivier Roger, from RFI’s Culture department. “ I think, in fact, Nigerian cinema is certainly one of the best mirrors of Nigerian society. We can do all the reports we want, all the documentaries, but we don’t often manage to have this proximity and at the same time this accuracy to address certain issues in Nigerian society. And that’s why Nollywood is important, because it allows the world to see what’s happening in Nigeria, and also allows society to have a discussion with itself.»

A discussion which also includes taboo subjects since Nollywood is no longer afraid to address the LGBT issue. The festival therefore offers the film by Babtunde Apalowo, All the colors of the world, a love story between two boys in a country where the law represses homosexuality. The film won the LGBTQI+ trophy at the last Berlin festival.
