The Slovenian road champion, Matej Mohoric, surprised with his victory in Milan-San Remo. There were names that started as favourites: Van Aert, Pogacar, Roglic, Jakobsen… However, the native of Kranj shone in a magnificent – as well as extremely dangerous – descent, which made him rise with The Classicissima.
In addition to his undoubted daring, it has come to light that Mohoric’s bike incorporated a tool that allowed him to risk more even on the descent. It is a dropper post. This allows the runner to adopt a better position on the descents, since he can lower his center of gravity, and thus achieve greater speed and greater control of the bicycle.
It is not something new in the world of cycling, since Vincenzo Nibali used it in the last stage of the Giro in 2016. However, it is not common, since the use of dropper posts is typical of MTB races. Through a remote control on the handlebars, the rider can lower or raise the height of the saddle.
Mohoric himself admitted that the dropper post helped him on the descent. “They had prepared a special bike for me to improve downhill. At first, I didn’t think it was a great advantage, but when I tried it I saw that it was. I was able to keep up with the best and open a gap going downhill”he pointed out after his victory.
