Discontent in the DRC after the results of the legislative elections

several observation missions reveal contrasting reports on the general elections

With more than 430 seats out of the approximately 470 to be filled, the sacred union of re-elected President Félix Tshisekedi is leading the legislative elections with the presidential party UDPS and its satellite and allied parties. The opposition has suffered setbacks and denounces the results of the vote, which are still provisional. Results which pave the way for litigation before the Constitutional Court.

Most of the applicants could, unsurprisingly, come from the majority in power, although reinforced by an unprecedented score of at least 430 deputies out of some 470 filled at this stage.

The coalition of re-elected President Félix Thisekedi has in its ranks disgruntled people who have made their anger known on social networks or in the corridors. They denounce these results which some assimilate to “ nominations » and others, to a “ settlement of accounts “.

But at the Céni, an official who spoke to RFI on Sunday evening believes that many protesters do not understand the electoral law and the method of calculating the threshold.

The observation mission of the Catholic and Protestant Churches had already pointed out the opacity in the calculation and allocation of seats. Which, the mission recalled, “ is not likely to reassure all stakeholders and does not promote acceptance of the results “.

Radical opponents, for their part, recall having already rejected this electoral process and the resulting results. A ” ignominy », takes offense to the camp of Moïse Katumbi who only collected around twenty seats according to these provisional results. A ” simulacrum “, we insist on the side of Matata Mponyo who criticizes the elections “ chaotic “.
