Disco Elysium’s developer Za/UM announced the Project C4, a new RPG after six years. This time we enter the world of espionage instead of detective.
The ZA/UM studio behind Disco Elysium, one of the most admired RPG games of recent years, announced its new game after a long silence. However, contrary to expected, this new production is not an Disco Elysium 2. Project C4 The game bearing the name is a spy -themed RPG. Za/UM announced that he was inspired by John Le Carré, known for his espionage stories, and announced that the game would have a darker and strategic structure.

In Project C4, players will control an agent (operant) working for a corrupt global power. The story of the game takes place in a world where minds turn into a battlefield. According to ZA/UM’s press release, elements such as mental manipulation, psychological struggle and even consciousness changing substances constitute the basic mechanics of the game. The studio said that players will try to survive not only in the physical world but also in the mental dimension.
The game aims to address the concept of failure from a different perspective. Developers said that they plan to make players’ moments of failure into a fun experience. Jim Ashilevi and Siim Sinamäe from Disco Elysium’s spelling team will use the failures of the game as a learning process and will leave other RPGs in this respect.
ZA/UM is in a remarkable position due to internal problems in the studio in recent years. After the departure of Robert Kurvitz, Aleksander Rostov and Helen Hindpere, from the creative team of Disco Elysium, there were major changes in the studio. Legal disputes and accusations within the team increased the question marks about the future of the studio.
More information about Project C4 will be shared at the GDC (Game Developers Conference) event this week. ZA/UM’s new game seems to reflect both the past problems of the studio and its new vision. An experience full of espionage, betrayal and dark stories is waiting for players.
