‘Perfect city bike’
VanMoof was founded in 2009 by the Dutch brothers Taco and Ties Carlier. They want to make a ‘perfect city bike’ with their company to ensure fewer cars in the city. The e-bikes are full of parts that were specially developed for VanMoof and that makes it an expensive bike. Over the years, the VanMoof developed into a bicycle for ‘hip young’ people. But the 2021 annual report already wrote about ‘higher than expected’ costs for repairs covered by the warranty scheme.
The company therefore suffered tens of millions of euros in losses in recent years and had to fill those gaps by attracting new investments. Complaints about the brand and long waiting times for repairs have been circulating on social media for some time now.
