With the SaveTheBook foundation, founder Van Mierlo wants to pass on books to future generations. “I scour thrift stores, junk attics and flea markets for this, looking for cultural heritage. Occasionally I come across something special, such as the Dom Church Bible.”
Last year he repaired a first edition of Anne Frank’s diary. “It gives me a good feeling that something like this gets a new lease of life. And in the case of the Bible, I hope that it will also make the inhabitants of Utrecht happy.”
