Disabled locked up 18 hours a day for 17 years

A disabled man with personal assistance in a municipality in Dalsland has spent between 16 and 18 hours a day locked in his bedroom since 2006. The bedroom door has no handle and the man has not been able to get out. Nor has he been able to call for help from inside the room. This is what the municipality writes in a lex Sarah report to the Inspectorate for Care and Care (Ivo) which News24 took part in.

Children died at home due to 1177’s misjudgment

The incident was noticed after 17 years

One of the man’s parents is a good man and personal assistant to him. According to the investigation, the parent believes that the man feels safest with a locked door and that he had it throughout his upbringing. According to the report, the parent is completely against the door being able to be opened.

Over the years, several different managers and nurses have assessed and approved that the bedroom door should be locked, according to the notification to Ivo. In the spring of 2023, after about 17 years, the situation was brought to the attention of the unit for pedagogy and education.

The municipality is now reporting the incident as a serious misconduct.
