After two films with the Batman villain, Phillips has apparently enough of his comic adaptation. No matter how much money part one made at the box office and no matter how part two will perform. He explained this in an interview with Variety:

In Joker 2: Folie à deux, Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) has now landed in Arkham psychiatric hospital. There he meets Harleen Quinzel (Lady Gaga), who is also incarcerated, and with whom he develops a dangerous relationship. Dangerous not only for each other, but also for those around them. And the best thing about it: The film is a psychological musical in which the Joker and Harley Quinn sing about their toxic love.
