18:06 – Let’s go to Tomac!

The Frenchman sets off into the water line n1 with a good flow. Here we go!

18:02 – Waiting for Tomac

While Tomac appears in the second semi-final of this 50m backstroke, the first saw Stokowski win in 22”73, with the Polish record. A super fast semi-final. The Frenchman will have to set his best time to pass.

17:58 – Tomac for a place in the final too

Author of the 13th time during the heats, Tomac will have to swim at his best level to hope to reach the final, he who is mixed about his sensations in short course: “I get smashed a little on the starts, it annoys me a bit little. I don’t feel very good in the water, my legs are not very explosive, I don’t push very well on them so in a small swim it’s complicated”. Semi-final to follow in a few moments.

17:56 – Final for Pigrea

By a few hundredths, the Frenchwoman, 4th in her semi-final in 26”22, qualifies for the final of the women’s 50m backstroke. However, we will have to raise our level considerably to hope for something against the ultra favorite Berkoff and King.

17:52 – Pigrée on a thread

With her 4th place in 26”22, Pigrée must wait to find out if she will reach the final of the 50m backstroke or not. Answer in a few moments with the second semi-final.

17:50 – Let’s go to Pigrea!

Good start from the Guyanese who launches this 50m backstroke semi-final perfectly!

17:48 – Pigrée in contention for a final

The Frenchwoman, who achieved the 6th time in the series, will aim to qualify for the final despite fierce competition. She will have to swim at her best level.

17:46 – Alexy wins gold, Grousset 6th

Small disappointment for the Habs who failed in 6th position in this final with a time of 45”78. The American Crooks, who was favorite, finished 3rd while Alexy won gold in 45”38.

17:44 – It’s very tight

Halfway through the race, the Frenchman is in the race for the podium even though the start of the race is very fast. Everything remains to be done with 50m of racing remaining!

17:40 – Grousset on the heels of Gastadello?

We immediately continue with the men’s 100m NL with another real chance of a French medal. In a final that promises to be open, Grousset is on target to get a medal. Behind Crooks who seems a step above, we will have to be wary of Alexy and Kornaev who will also play for the podium.

17:37 – Silver Gastaldello!

What a start to the evening for the French clan with Beryl Gastadello who is looking for a new silver medal after yesterday’s, with the French record shattered as a bonus, 50”63! A second place behind Walsh who was simply impregnable this evening.

17:35 – Halfway through the race

Walsh is already in the lead, Gastadello well positioned to get the podium!

17:35 – Let’s go to Gastaldello!

Let’s go for this women’s 100m NL final with Gastaldello who has the opportunity to win a second medal in these Worlds!

17:32 – Gastaldello opens the ball

The captain of the French swimming team is in the running at the start of this evening session with the final of the women’s 100m NL. She set the 2nd fastest time in the semi-finals behind Walsh who seemed untouchable. A second medal for the Frenchwoman in these Worlds?

17:30 – The first athletes in the starting blocks!

We are diving little by little into this third evening session of these Worlds. While the opening show is in full swing, the women’s 100m freestyle will soon begin with Gastaldello who could bring home a second medal for the French clan.

After the euphoria in the Olympic swimming pool during the Paris Olympics, the greatest swimmers (or almost) meet up for the short course world championships near Budapest in Hungary. While Léon Marchand could have completed his year at the top, the multiple Olympic champion decided to withdraw, “tired” and “exhausted” by all the races and events. “It’s time for me to take a step back, train hard and start preparing for the challenges ahead,” he said on social media.

Consequence of his withdrawal, a fairly poor French delegation and low chances of medals even if we will closely follow Maxime Grousset, Anastasiia Kirpichnikova or our back specialists Yohann Ndoye-Brouard and Mewen Tomac. But traditionally, these Worlds are more complicated to follow and are not the specialty of the French. The reason? “The real problem is that between the 50 and 25 m pools, it’s a bit like between tennis and table tennis: they look similar but they are two different sports” explained to the Fabrice Pellerin period.
