20:47 – Norrie’s victory on video

20:45 – A first in 5 years

By reaching the round of 16, Cameron Norrie ended a 5-year drought for British tennis at Wimbledon. Indeed, no British player had reached the second week of the London major since 2017 and Andy Murray (beaten in the quarter-finals by Sam Querrey, editor’s note).

20:33 – Norrie very happy

Asked about the fact that he reached the knockout stages for the first time in a Grand Slam, Cameron Norrie (26) did not hide his pride. “It’s nice to achieve this, even more so at Wimbledon. The timing is perfect in front of my friends and family. I had a great time today”explained the native of Johannesburg who praised the work done with his coach.

20:30 – Norrie in an unknown land

Cameron Norrie qualified for the first time in his career for the second week of a Grand Slam. So here is an incongruity corrected for 12th player in the world.

20:26 – Norrie qualifies

Cameron Norrie finally made short work of Steve Johnson. If the match was tight during the first run, the American totally exploded in flight, failing to overtake a stubborn Briton who was not brilliant. The end of the match was a lone horse for the seeded n°9 who lined up 9 consecutive games, ending the match with a volley dropped behind the net against a totally resigned opponent. He will find in the round of 16 another American in the person of Tommy Paul, seeded n°30.

Johnson forces his second outside ball which dies down the hallway. Double fault of the American which allows Norrie to lead 5/0 in this third set which turns to Calvary.

20:15 – Norrie is unstoppable

Cameron Norrie fights over every ball. While Johnson seemed to have put him out of position by going in front of him with a forehand, the Briton put it back with a forehand slice. At the net, the American does not straighten the ball and offers a new break opportunity.

20:12 – Johnson picks up

Johnson sends his second ball into the bottom of the net and accuses the shot. The American finds himself with two break points to save to avoid being led 0/5.

20:11 – Norrie is in a hurry

Cameron Norrie confirms his double break with a shutout. It only lasted 49 seconds against a Johnson totally disillusioned by the turn of events (4/0).

20:09 – Double break Norrie

Steve Johnson cracks again. On a low volley, the American fails to straighten the ball which dies in the band of the net and offers the double break to Norrie. Just before the Briton had slipped him an unstoppable long passing line. Norrie unrolls (3-0).

20:07 – Norrie confirms

Cameron Norrie does not procrastinate on his engagement and completes it in barely two minutes, losing only one point. Break confirmed for the Briton (2-0).
