21:20 – The profile of the 2nd stage between Roskilde and Nyborg
After this first stage in the streets of Copenhagen, the riders will set off to discover Denmark during the second stage of the Tour de France 2022 on Saturday July 2. If the terrain is rather flat between the towns of Roskilde and Nyborg, the peloton will be entitled to a spectacular passage over the Great Belt bridge and the wind could play a role in this 202.5 kilometer long stage.
9:00 p.m. – Christophe Laporte believed in it
In addition to Yves Lampaert, another rider almost created a surprise in this time trial. It was Frenchman Christophe Laporte, who set the best split time with five seconds over Lampaert, but crashed after halfway, burying his chances of victory. Despite everything, the Jumbo-Visma rider only finished 36 seconds behind the new yellow jersey, which must leave him with some regrets.
8:40 p.m. – The French limit breakage
More generally, the French achieved honorable performances today in the streets of Copenhagen. Romain Bardet (DSM) finished 45 seconds behind Yves Lampaert, while david gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) finished 50 seconds behind the winner of the day. Thibaut Pinot concedes him 1 min 21 seconds. Benjamin Thomas, the first French runner, finished 23rd, 14 seconds from the lead.
20:20 – Lampaert: “It’s incredible for me”
Winner of the first stage of the Tour de France 2022 this Friday in Copenhagen, Yves Lampaert had difficulty in containing his emotion, at the microphone of France 2 after having put on the yellow jersey: “I am happy, I beat the great runner Wout van Aert! I had to slow down before the corners to reaccelerate right after. It was very hard! It’s unbelievable for me, I never thought about the yellow jersey. […] I really wasn’t expecting that. My head is exploding, I expected to make a top 10, it would have been very good and there, I beat all the best, van Aert, Ganna, van der Poel… I am in good condition but from there to winning the first stage of the Tour de France… I didn’t imagine it!”
20:00 – Yves Lampaert in history
Belgian Yves Lampaert has become the fourth Belgian rider in history to win an inaugural Tour de France time trial, after Eddy Merckx, Freddy Maertens and Eric Vanderaerden. He is also the first Belgian to win the first stage of the Tour de France since Philippe Gilbert, in 2011.
7:40 p.m. – The favorites have responded
With only 13.6 km of distance, this first time trial of the Tour de France 2022 was not likely to create large gaps among the favorites, who were present in Copenhagen. Double winner of the Tour, Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) came close to victory but finally finished third. The two leaders of the Jumbo-Visma, the Dane Jonas Vingegaard and the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, finish them 15″ and 16″ from Yves Lampaert. Adam Yates and Gareth Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) finish at 23 and 25 seconds respectively, Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe) at 31 seconds. Only Ben O’Connor (AG2R Citroën) conceded more time, one minute and one second behind.
